Breguet exhibit displayed at the Louvre

Paris--It seems the Breguet watch brand and the Mona Lisa have something in common: You can find them both at the Louvre this summer.

The Musee de Louvre in Paris is displaying Breguet timepieces as part of a temporary exhibit that runs from June 25 through Sept. 7, 2009, at which visitors are invited to learn more about the techniques and aesthetics of horologist Abraham Louis Breguet (1747 to 1823), who founded the Breguet watchmaking firm in the City of Lights back in 1775. The brand is now part of the Swatch Group.

The exhibit was curated by Marc Bascou, of the Musee de Louvre's department of decorative arts, and Emmanuel Breguet, a historian specializing in the works of Breguet, at Montres Breguet S.A., according to a release from the brand.

The exhibition brings together the wide variety of watches produced by Breguet, including items from the Louvre's own collection and from the Breguet Museum. The exhibition also includes remarkable items on loan from private collections and prestigious institutions such as the British  Royal Collections, the Musee des Arts et Metiers in Paris, the Kremlin Museum and the Swiss National Museum.

A special launch event was held on  June 23 to celebrate the grand opening of the exhibition. After a private tour of Salle de La Chapelle, guests enjoyed an exclusive dinner held under the pyramid of the Louvre.
