Montres Jaquet Droz breaks ground

La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland--Swiss watch brand Montres Jaquet Droz has laid the foundation stone for its new head offices in Le Cret-du-Locle, Switerland.

The Sept. 9 groundbreaking initiated the official beginning of construction, with the facilities expected to open in summer of 2010.

The groundbreaking marks a dynamic new stage for the company, which was founded in 1738 and has since been focused on prestigious models and unique pieces.

Swatch Group acquired Montres Jaquet Droz in 2000, and at the Sept. 9 event, Swatch Group Chairman Nicolas Hayek, Swatch Group Chief Executive Officer Nick Hayek and Montres Jaquet Droz President Manuel Emch were on hand in Le Cret-du-Locle to lay the foundation stone for the new Jaquet Droz Manufacture.

The facilities will accommodate close to 100 employees in a nearly 27,00-square-foot space. The new site will allow the brand to regroup all of it activities under one roof and offers significant growth potential, the company said in a media release.
