Philadelphia—Govberg Jewelers will host its 2008 Watch Fair this week, showcasing 17 of the world's most luxurious and coveted watch brands.

The Philadelphia-based retailer says the event is a tribute to the Swiss and German watch-making industries.

The fair will take place from Oct. 24-26 at Govberg's Center City location inside of Boyds department store on Chestnut Street.

Brands to be showcased include: A. Lange and Sohne, Audemars Piguet, Bell and Ross, Blancpain, Breitling, Chopard, Concord, Franck Muller, Girard-Perregaux, Glashutte Original, Harry Winston, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Parmigiani, Piaget, Ulysse Nardin and Vacheron Constantin.

The retailer says the event will be the first of its kind in the United States.

"For years, other countries have been showcasing a large number of brands at fairs," Danny Govberg, company president and owner, said in a media release. "Switzerland has international fairs in both Basel and Geneva, and I felt that it was important for the United States to have its own."

In addition to the large number of watch brands on display, their U.S. brand presidents will be in attendance at the fair. This will be the first time ever that the group will be together under one roof for a retail event, Govberg said.

The participating brands will also showcase an exceptional product, either the No. 1 watch of a limited series or a unique brand piece.

Horological seminars led by industry experts will be another feature of the event, and the jeweler will also host intimate brand dinners at a selection of fine restaurants throughout the Philadelphia area. The dinners will consist of a small group of collectors and watch enthusiasts who will have the chance to sit down with the brand presidents.

An after-party, sponsored by Elite Traveler and other luxury vendors, is scheduled at G, an elite Philadelphia lounge.
