New York—To mark the 100th anniversary of Rolex, Antiquorum Auctioneers will auction 270 of the watch brand's timepieces, displays and memorabilia.

The auction, titled "Revolution: The Evolution of the Rolex Sport Watch," will be held on April 17 at Antiquorum's U.S. headquarters on Madison Avenue in New York City, after the collection takes a worldwide tour.

One of the highlights of the collection is the extremely rare 1967 prototype "Sea Dweller," Ref. 1665, which comes with an Oyster perpetual date rated to 2,000 feet and is self-winding and water-resistant but without a gas escape valve. It's estimated at $100,000-$150,000.

Also included in the auction is the Comex "Submariner 1000 ft = 300m," Ref. 168000. Made for Comex in 1988, the stainless steel diver's watch is self-winding and water-resistant but without a helium escape valve. It's estimated at $90,000-$100,000.

In addition, the auction will include the "SBS" Submariner, Ref. 5517. Made in 1972 for the British Special Boat Service and issued in 1978, the stainless steel military diver's watch is self-winding and water-resistant, and comes with a black bezel. It also has center-seconds, 60-minute divisions and fixed bar lugs. It's estimated at $80,000-$100,000.

Rolex has a long history with the sports watch, revolutionizing the concept with the invention of the "Oyster," the first waterproof and airtight watch that survived Mercedes Gleitze's swim across the English Channel, which lasted 15 hours. Developments after the Oyster include the Explorer, the Turn-o-Graph, the Submariner, the Cosmograph, the Milgauss, the Sea-Dweller and the Explorer II.

To register for the auction, call (212) 750-1103 or visit Antiquorum's Web site, Antiquorum.com.
