Swatch Group is the latest in rush for megastores

The Swatch Group is opening a megastore in Tokyo, joining the likes of other luxury and fashion companies such as Bottega Veneta, Bulgari and Gucci, who have also opened large stores in Japan over the past nine months. The reported cost of this store, Swatch's second-largest single venture, is $140 million.

The 15-floor Hayek center, which Swatch acquired three years ago, will include small showrooms for seven main brands, including Blancpain, Breguet, Glashutte, Jaquet Droz, Leon Hatot, Omega and Swatch. Although the Japanese market reached its peak and is now declining, many still believe in its growth potential and are continuing with expansion plans. The Ginza district of Tokyo has a strong retail reputation, and the company believes it's an ideal place to "show the world" the Swatch Group.
