Geneva—Sotheby's will host its traditional autumn sale next month with about 160 timepieces, including two rare pocket watches, going on the auction block.

Among the lots are a selection of vintage and modern watches by such notables as Patek Philippe and Rolex, along with a private collection of fine and rare pocket watches from an estate, including signed pieces by Ilbery and Piguet and Meylan.

The top lot of the sale is a platinum automatic minute-repeating wristwatch with perpetual calendar by Patek Philippe (Red. 5013P), estimated at $400,000 to $500,000.

Among the Rolex watches for sale is a stainless steel triple-calendar chronograph wristwatch with registers (Ref. 6236), circa 1958, estimated at $125,000 to $215,000.

The private collection includes 15 fine and rare pieces, including two pocket watches specifically made for the Chinese market.

The first pocket watch is a center-seconds duplex watch in gold and enamel crafted by English watchmaker William Ilbery during the mid 19th century. Estimated at $100,000 to $150,000, the case back is decorated with an enamel scene by V. Dupont, one of the period's most notable enamellers.

The second pocket watch is a quarter-repeating cylinder watch in gold set with enamel and pearls, made by Geneva watchmakers Isaac Daniel Piguet and Philippe-Samuel Meylan. The watchmakers formed a partnership that lasted from 1811 to 1828, and came to specialize in beautifully decorated musical watches, including skeleton and automaton watches. The timepiece is estimated at $135,000 to $210,000.

The auction will take place in Geneva on Nov. 13, with a pre-sale exhibition from Nov. 10-12 at Geneva's Beau-Rivage Hotel.
