Antiquorum sees record auction

New York—Antiquorum got its fall season off to a good start as its first sale—the auction of Important Collectors' Wristwatches and Pocket Watches—achieved $4,648,463 on Wednesday.

Of the 335 pieces offered, 127 percent were sold by value and 80 percent were sold by lot. Bidders from around the world participated in numerous formats, including over the phone and online.

"The results that we've seen today prove that despite recent volatile stock and real estate markets, the collectors' watch market continues to remain strong," Antiquorum USA Watch Director Julien Schaerer said in a statement.

The top lot was a Jules Audemars-Tourbillon Repetition Minutes Chronographe that sold for $299,600.

The A. Lange and Sohne watch brand also did well with a Double Split Flyback going for $117,400 and a Lange 1 Tourbillon hitting $169,150.

A world record was reached with the $128,900 sale of the Patek Philippe Safari Clock, and the Patek Philippe World-Time Wall Clock sold for $27,140.

Jaeger-LeCoultre was also in demand with its Master Minute Repeater Antoine LeCoultre, which sold for $128,900.

In addition, Omega's Speedmaster sold for $82,600, and Rolex got good results from the sales of a Gold Cosmograph for $66,080 and a Stainless Steel Cosmograph Daytona for $30,680.
