Rolex says its new watchmaker training program will set a new standard in professional watchmaking education in the United States.

New York--Rolex has designed a new watchmaker training program to be implemented at all Rolex-sponsored schools in the United States.

The program's new curriculum, examinations and certification process will be overseen by the newly formed Swiss American Watchmakers Training Alliance (SAWTA), a Rolex owned and directed entity that includes representatives from the watch brand, as well as from the Watchmakers of Switzerland Training and Education Program (WOSTEP), the American Watchmakers-Clockmakers Institute (AWCI) and Rolex-sponsored schools.

The curriculum is intended to consolidate the instruction of skills currently required to achieve the AWCI and WOSTEP certifications, and will set a new standard in professional watchmaking education in the United States, Rolex said in a media release.

There will be just one comprehensive final exam recognized by alliance members, and upon successful completion, candidates will receive individual certifications from SAWTA, WOSTEP and the AWCI, as well as diplomas from their respective schools and colleges.

Rolex-sponsored watchmaking programs in the United States include courses at the North Seattle Community College, St. Paul College in St. Paul, Minn., and Oklahoma State University-Okmulgee. In addition, in 2001, Rolex founded the Lititz Watch Technicum in Lititz, Pa.

Rolex's endowment to-date totals more than $1.6 million annually, with more than 200 students graduating from its programs.
