Washington, D.C.—In celebration of watch brand Breitling's long history in the aviation world, the Swiss-based company presented its first-ever "The Breitling Award for Aviation Heroism" as well as its annual "Tomorrow's Leaders" award at Aviation Week magazine's Laureate Awards, held on March 20 in Washington, D.C.

The Laureate Awards, which are held annually to honor achievements in aviation, aerospace and defense, celebrated its 50th anniversary this year with an awards ceremony at the National Air and Space Museum.

Stefano Albinati, aviation department manager for Breitling S.A., had the honor of presenting "The Breitling Award for Aviation Heroism," which acknowledges pilots for their bravery and heroism. Members of the U.S. Coast Guard HH-60J rescue team, Lieutenant Commanders Walter L. Horne and William R. Timmons, Third Class Aviation Survival Technician Jon E. Houlberg and Third Class Aviation Maintenance Technician Karl A. Schickle, were each presented with a Breitling "Emergency" watch.

In March of last year, the team rescued an injured climber who had fallen near Devil's Thumb Mountain on the Alaskan-Canadian border. Breitling says the team's bravery, perseverance and commitment to the mission, despite adverse conditions, resulted in the successful rescue.

Breitling USA President Marie Bodman presented the company's second award, for "Tomorrow's Leaders," in recognition of the achievements of cadets at the service academies who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and outstanding academic skills in the field of aviation. This year's recipients, each of whom received a Breitling Aerospace watch, are: Cadet Lieutenant Jeffrey Michael Rigney, U.S. Military Academy; Midshipman First Class Douglas Lanier Marsh, U.S. Naval Academy; Cadet First Class Nathaniel Souleret, U.S. Coast Guard Academy; and Cadet First Class Christopher Abbot Taylor, U.S. Air Force Academy.
