Geneva—Sotheby's will host its "Important Watches" spring sale at the Beau Rivage Hotel in Geneva on Tuesday, May 15, at 10 a.m. A public exhibition will take place from May 12-14.

The sale will include vintage and modern wristwatches from the likes of Audemars Piguet, Breguet, Francois Paul Journe, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Patek Philippe, Rolex and Vacheron Constantin.

A few of the vintage highlights include: a white-gold Breguet perpetual-calendar wristwatch with moon phases (lot 38), made in 1935 and estimated at $125,000-$207,000; a split-seconds chronograph wristwatch by Patek Philippe (lot 147) retailed by Tiffany and Co. in 1969 and estimated at $207,000-$290,000; and another Patek Philippe (lot 162), a black-dial, military-style wristwatch from 1947 and estimated at $33,100-$58,000. Sotheby's says that vintage, stainless steel Patek Philippe wristwatches with black dials are extremely rare, and that the watch featured in the sale appears for the first time at auction.

Among the modern wristwatch offerings is a very fine and rare, platinum perpetual-calendar wristwatch from Patek Philippe, circa 1999. The watch (lot 212, ref. 3970E) features register, moon phases and a diamond-set black dial, and is estimated at $108,000-$158,000. Also at auction is Patek Philippe's platinum, automatic center seconds perpetual-calendar wristwatch (lot 207, ref. 5059) with moon phases and retrograde date in an "Officer"-style case, dated 2000. The watch is estimated at $49,700-$74,500.

Additional offerings include the IWC "Grande Complication" automatic chronograph wristwatch (lot 106) with minute-repeating, perpetual calendar, moon phases and year indicator, circa 1991, and estimated at $83,000-$125,000; and the Francois Paul Journe "Chronometre a resonance" wristwatch (lot 67) with dual-time-zone and eccentric dials, estimated at $24,900-$33,100.
